Cari grew up in rural New Hampshire. She has an older brother, with whom she played badminton and soccer regularly. Though never on any competitive teams, she was always active. She moved to Boston for school, and soon discovered a love for running. Years later, while teaching in Framingham, she entered and won a lottery spot for the Boston Marathon (two years in a row). She had only dabbled in half marathons until then, such as the Bay State Half and the Providence half. One day, she was experiencing pain in her IT band, and she sought out a physical therapist in Ashland. The PT said it was simple, she needed to develop strength because her lower body was not strong enough to keep up with all the long runs. The PT specifically cited that her glutes were not strong. Cari went searching for a CrossFit gym, after hearing about it through a friend. She happened upon One Nation in Waltham, and she will never forget it because, the cutest dog answered the door. The workout was, in her current state, quite terrible, but she was soon completely hooked. She ran the Boston Marathon in 2018, when all runners \"swam\" from Hopkinton to Boston, and in 2019, when all runners got to experience all four seasons : ). Through CrossFit, she never experienced any more lower body pain during long runs, and found her new passion.
Cari loves coaching CrossFit because she loves giving back to the community that gave her so much- from now lifelong friends, a fulfilling second career, and a deeper sense of self confidence, empowerment and purpose. It's such a gift to have the opportunity to help others - especially in regards to health and wellness. There is simply no feeling like being part of the CrossFit community and at Attain.
